Where in the world do Tek-Tips members come from?

Two questions:
1.) Has anyone seen this problem before?
2.) Any sugestions?

All of our normal directories are separated by forward-slashes, since we work on AIX.  The bogus directories (see below) are being created with backward slashes between valid folder names.  The bogus directory "collaboration_rules\HIPAA" is actually viewed by the OS as a single dir with name "collaboration_rules\HIPAA".
As an example, see how the OS responds to the 'ls' commands below, issued from egate/client:

This looks like an installation issue. For some reason it thinks that you are on a Windows box vs. UNIX. There may be an environment setting to change this, I doubt it. Your best shot may be to reinstall, after confirming that you have the right version to install.
