How to edit BBx code?

How to edit BBx code?

(OP)
I have been asked by my company to edit some BBx code because some of the files are out of sync for some depreciation functions.  The current system was set up by an old consultant.  I am completely new to BBx and have no idea what I am doing.  I have visited a few websites with no luck locating any general information.  Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

RE: How to edit BBx code?

Do you know what version/type of BBx this is?  EX: Thoroughbred, Providex, etc?  The version I've been using has an editor program named "_edit" that can be called from a BBx command prompt.  It's accessed by BREAKing into the system, LOADing the program you want to edit, and typing CALL "_EDIT"

It's also possible once you get a feel for the language to set up a utility to write the program out to an ASCII text file which can then be edited using any text editor, then converted back to a BBx program.  Some functions are easier that way than using the built-in editor.

RE: How to edit BBx code?

What version of BBX do you have?
Try with "_edit" utility. Example:
Load "Program file"
call "_edit"
You need break the program. If canĀ“t break the program, try to load then Initial program of your aplication.
This utility is a page editor. It's for BBX3, BBX4, PRo5, Visual PRo5.

RE: How to edit BBx code?

Almost two months later...

Another utility to try would be "_ascii", which will invoke a standard text editor for you (much better than the clunky old _EDIT).  There are some technical papers at the BASIS Web site (http://www.basis.com/) in the Programmers Technical Archive which will explain how to set up ASCII coding for Business Basic programmers.

RE: How to edit BBx code?

Justin,

The depreciation tables may be maintainable from within the application, in which case you do not have to get down to the coding level.

It is possible that the rates are not hard-coded in the program, but are kept in a separate data file.

I know it has been a long time since your post, but if you are still working on this problem, feel free to e-mail the program in question, and I will help you resolve this issue.

RE: How to edit BBx code?

The current version of BBx, VPRO/5, is capable of reading BBx, Version 4, code and converting that version's data files.

You need to contact Basis International, at www.basis.com.
