Why is cisco still only 11mbps?

how come cisco has not used the new ieee standards that have 22,52,72mbps speeds?

is it soon to be released?

cisco 11mbps ap350 aprox $600
d-link 72mbps 256bit wep ap less than ?200

whats with that?

i'm sure its coming but as you know cisco don't "mess around" when they make a product they make sure its GOOD. you pay for what you get and thats even more true with wireless equiptment. also if i remember correctly, looking at the two examples you posted, the cisco AP will handle alot more users.

Cisco does have an add-on for the 1200 Series AP that allows it to use the 5 GHz band as well (802.11a) ... the Cisco Rep here told me they are planning on having a 802.11g module available once the standard for it is finalized this fall (Linksys and everyone else jumped the gun and went off on their own).

With and Cisco (as with everything else) you pay for what you get. IMHO, Cisco is pretty much the best stuff you can get ... we have tried D-Link wireless equipment and learned the hard way why it was cheaper. Lots of DOA stuff, D-Link doesnt support any network running WEP, other incompatibilities, etc.

So ... I would say Cisco is expensive because you are paying for the quality and the guarantee that everything will work the way it supposed to (and if not they are very happy to help, and in my case they even came on site to figure out what was going on).

Yeah.. people forget that 802.11a and 802.11b are the only finalized standards in wireless right now.. Everyone has their own "version" of 802.11g.. but because they jumped the gun and offered theirs BEFORE the standard.. you can't even be sure it would work the way it's supposed to on a real G network.
