 files in /var/lock/subsys ?

I have found most of the startup scripts has a line that touch a file in /var/lock/subsys. What does this mean?
For example:
/var/lock/subsys/xinetd
/var/lock/subsys/sendmail
/var/lock/subsys/named

This is to make sure the same process doesn't start up twice. If you run the startup script again, it will check the file, realise it's already running and exit. Cheers Henrik Morsing

The system checks it or the start up script checks it?
If the system lost power suddenly, the file will remain there and does the start up script start in next boot?

Prolly realise its a "stale" lockfile, and clean itself up.

It's only the startup script that checks it. (There's really no such thing as "the system"). You can always just delete it manually if it causes problems. Cheers Henrik Morsing
