Passing HTML into a variable for use in a HTP.PRINT statement

feign3 (MIS)

I'd like to assign an HTP.PRINT statement to a variable to use in an IF/THEN statement. Does anyone know the proper way to do this? I want to assign something like HTML_V := MYHTMLCODE

Then I want to call that variable to print the HTML using HTP.PRINT in my IF/THEN clause... something like:

IF ORD_QTY_V IS NULL
THEN
ORD_QTY_V := REQ_QTY_V;
htp.print (HTML_V);
ELSE
BO_QTY_V := ORD_QTY_V - SHIP_QTY_V;
htp.print (HTML_V);

I'm pretty sure I have the htp.print syntax correct in the IF/THEN statement but I'm only able to compile my procedure with my variable := statement written one way (if you want to see it, let me know... I didn't want to post the whole thing in this message). But when I do a DBMS_OUTPUT on HTML_V to see if the HTML was passed in correctly, the output fails. I made sure my variable was declared with a big enough character buffer so other than that I'm lost.
