We recently migrated iPlanet from 4.1 to 6.0. One of our application with SSL is not accessable when we use IE 5.0 browser. Error message in webserver error log is -
failure (25856): Error receiving connection (SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP - no common encryption algorithm(s) with client.)

Has anyone experienced this before? How to resolve this?

Your help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Change Cipher Strength to accept clients (browsers) with lower encryption capability like 40-bit or 56-bit through iPlanet Admin Console.

This solves the problem.

I can't seem to find the option in the iPlanet admin console. The closest thing I can find is under...
defaultclass Class Manager | Content Management tab | Stronger Ciphers

Admin console -> Select Web Server Instance -

(Security Settings of Listen Socket)
Preferences -> Edit Listen Sockets -> Security (Attributes) (only when, Security is On)
Click each of the given below to set Cipher Strength
        SSL2
        SSL3/TLS

All,

I have been chasing the same problem for several days now.  What I just found, and may be helpful is, IPlanet 6.1 seems to have a problem with manual edits to the magnus.conf file.   If you have been banging your head against the wall with this problem, delete the related lines in the magnus.conf, then use the gui to add them back in.  <shrug> dont ask me why it worked, but it worked.

Also, I went down this path, because on the server (virtual server) startup, in the error log, there was a line about "SSL2 Directive ignored"  "SSL3 Directive ignored"

Good Luck!
