Connecting (via ODBC) without a local definition of a remote database?

Connecting (via ODBC) without a local definition of a remote database?

(OP)
Hi,

Is it possible to create an ODBC connect string without specifying a local definition (via the Mimer Administrator) of a Mimer database?

Thanks,

RE: Connecting (via ODBC) without a local definition of a remote database?

No, you have to define either a local or a remote database before you can connect to it. It is possible (as you probably know) to connect without having a data source name with SQLDriverConnect.

You can create a remote definition from your program if you like. This is done with the following call:

SQLConfigDataSource(NULL, ODBC_ADD_SYS_DSN, "MIMER",
  "DATABASE=DBREM\0NODE=nodename\0PROTOCOL=tcp\0\0");

You can find more information in the Mimer SQL Packaging Guide: http://developer.mimer.se/documentation/html_82/Mimer_SQL_Packaging_Guide_Windows/Mimer_SQL_Packaging_Guide_Windows.htm

Thanks - yes, I can connect without creating a DSN. So the ODBC driver works together with the Mimer Administrator (or the data from it) to establish the connection...

ok :)

I've also found the registry-key where the Mimer Administrator stores it information, so this should be something I can show to the user (get the local/remote definitions) in order to help them connect...
