Installation problem - can anyone help?

Can anybody help?

I can't even begin to figure out the Open Office find an issue page. And there is no route to support of any kind.

I installed latest open office version on my XP desktop. Not far from the end the install routine froze & popped up that lovely XP "there is a problem" dialogue. Suffice to say that Openoffice won't launch. Nor will it uninstall or repair or reinstall or do anything.

Setup.inf appears to be missing from install directory which may be an issue. I cannot uninstall the application as it says Setup.inf is missing. I can't repair or reinstall as each attempts freezes at the same point of the installation & I am back to square one.

Every time I boot XP I get a can't open openoffice error.

So I have 150MB of unusable open office installation that I cannot uninstall. Can anyone pls help - I am not a happy chap.

Many Thanks

M1

OOo is unsupported, but StarOffice is supported, the downside to SO is that you have to pay for it.  Otherwise, they are essentially the same program.  Maybe you could get help from Sun on a pay-by-issue basis.  I personally haven't seen this problem before.

I've seen it with windows XP!  Haven't solved the open office one yet.  Xp appears to strip away the .* from some install programs.  in some cases you can rename the file and simply put a .exe at the end.  However, this doesn't work with open office.

I have Windows XP Home edition, and it works great.  Do you have the latest version of OOo?

XP Pro and found if you rename it as a zip file it works great.  Installs etc... haven't had the original problem that was posted but seen it... ended up reinstalling to solve that one.

Did this ever get resolved?  I am having the same issue - tried installing 1.02 and 1.031 with same result every time.  It makes it up to the last install step - setting up user parameters, then fails.  After that it won't install (you can get rid of it by using System Restore to back up to a previous restore point, then going back and deleting the folder in your Program Files directory).  It's wierd that other users don't seem to have this problem...

Help! I'm also having a problem with missing setup.inf. I can't run Office XP as well. Openoffice runs perfectly on my new computer Winxp Home. But on my old computer, I can't even uninstall it.

Does anyone know what to do to fix this?

Thanks.
