Plugged into the back of our Option 61C (r25) we have a D-link Ethernet Tranceiver with nothing plugged into it. When I place the fluke meter on it, the connectivity light on the D-Link turns green but I am unable to discover anything about the port (I.P. address, device type, etc). If it is what I think it is (an ethernet connection to our PBX), I would like to plug a laptop into it but I'm not sure if I first need to enable the port in the PBX and If I do need to enable it, I don't know how. I also don't know how to find out that port's I.P. address or maybe I need its TTY number....I'm just not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? Hopefully I'm making some sense.

First of all I would only suggest that you use this port if you are using MAT6 or Optivity Telephone Manager, the port will be useless without these applications.  Your 61 has two CPUs, 0 and 1, each of these will have a DB25 male which you can insert a AUI to RJ45 transceiver.  In the nightly routines in the system, the switch will switch from 0 to 1, this is why you'll need x2 transceivers.  Also another thing to keep in mind is that if you wish to connect this ELan port your your data network then I suggest that you either create a VLan if you have this technology or put a hub between the PBX and LAN, you'll alos need a cross-over cable from the transceiver.  The switch doesn't like the data broadcasts, it will cause the system to hang, by creating a VLan or useing a hub you will overcome this problem.  To check the switch for an IP address you'll need to login at a TTY and load LD 117, type PRT HOST, this will list the IP addressesd assigned to any of your CPU's.  At this point you will need to add a new IP address to each of the CPU.  I would suggest that you create a new subnet for your switches if you wish to connect to your data network.  To add a IP address type the following NEW HOST M1A_IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx then NEW HOST M1B_IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx then NEW HOST GATEWAY_IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.  Then you'll need to enable CPU0 has the main ELNK, do this by typing CHG ELNK ACTIVE M1A_IP then CHG ELNK INACTIVE M1B_IP.  You'll then need to change the subnet mask by typing CHG MASK xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.  You'll then need to setup a route for the switch to access your data network, NEW ROUTE 0.0.0.0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(your gateway for the switch).  Verify that everything is in the DBase by typing the following, PRT HOST, PRT MASK, PRT ROUTE, PRT ELNK.
This is the part where you ask god to please make the switch come back to life - only joking it should be ok, but I would advise to do this out of hours, you'll need to do a manual initilisation via the active CPU card.  This will reboot your software, if anyone is on a call at the time this will not effect them, if anyone tries to make a call at the time they will get no dial tone for about 2mins.
