Can anyone give me some tips about how much to charge for designing a web site? I've done a couple for schools, and since I've retired just finished one (freebie) for a fledgling chamber of commerce. I do mostly informational type sites, but I think I could learn to do sites that conduct business on the web. How much to charge? I'm located in NW Florida, small community near Pensacola. Hope this is not too much OT.

Depending upon your skills is what is generally charged. I recommend between $40.00 and $65.00 per hour or you could break it out as a page rate which includes buttons, links, and the coding - the client should supply logo and content - for this you could charge between $75.00 and $125.00 per page like I said above, it depends on your skills.

What you charge depends largely on what you mean by "designing a web site". If you mean creating a static site with canned graphics, no DHTML, no e-commerce or database access, not very much, since anybody with a copy of frontpage or hot metal pro can do that too.

If you're creating custom graphics, or a full-fledged web application (as opposed to a few static web pages) then your fees will depend on the level of sophistication of the application.
