I have a deskjet 850c. I cannot find the software to produce a "HP control centre" to make the printer work fully. I believe I need to "align the cartridges"

HP support have told me the 850c is obsolete. No downloads available.

Is there anywhere where I can get the necessary software?

PS although I am described as a technical user this was possibly a mistake. I am a simple end user!

Have you gone on the website to see if it is there.  Support is notorious for not knowing what is available.

I'm not sure if all Hp drivers are this way but for the Deskjet 870 driver on Windows NT you access Services like aligning the cartridge this way:
- Open "Printers"
- Right click on the 850 printer driver.
- Left click on "Document Defaults..."
- Select the "Services" tab of the Docment Defaults window.

Here's the link for the 850C drivers, when you get to this page click your OS.
