Is there an easy way to prevent other users from copying the URL of an image on my site, and then using it on another site or setting the image as a favourite?

Hmm... Sorry I don't know how to do it for IIS, this is a good tip for apache http://alicorna.com/techtips.html#bandwidththeft but not sure if that helps much :(

Can anyone else enlighten us?

I've discovered this works if all your images are in a single folder. For other configurations, you might need to tweak it a bit.
 
     SetEnvIf Referer "^http://www.example.com/"; local_referal
     # Allow browsers that do not send Referer info
     SetEnvIf Referer "^$" local_referal
     <Directory /web/images>
        Order Deny,Allow
        Deny from all
        Allow from env=local_referal
     </Directory>
