Does anyone have any recommendations for a utility (preferably very cheap) that compares text files? Ideally, I'd like a vertical split screen to compare ASCII text files, highlighting differences, etc... I'm doing a lot of modifications to some ancient QBASIC spaghetti code (yes, this business is running on QBASIC) and I need something quick. Thanks, Marc at MKB400@aol.com

I am going to make a suggestion that you may have already tried, have you checked some of the freeware/shareware sites? Such as shareware.com and ferretsoft.com. Then you can search for the utility you are looking for.

Sorry can't be of more help.

A shareware product called Beyond Compare is the best you can ever find. I routinely compare source code for changes as well as trace files from testing, the latter frequently larger than 200' lines. It's got colour coding, you can copy from one half of the window to the other, etc.

It is simply great. You can find it at

www.scootersoftware.com

Try it out, then go by it. The producers deserve to get money for this product.

Visual Source Safe is the best product for your problem
