Connect by comm port on a Nortel BayStack 350-24t

Hi,

   I'm trying to configure a Nortel BayStack 350-24T by its comm port but i'm not able to connect to it.

   I wonder if my cable is not good or my pc's configuration.

   If someone knows how it works...

several comments:
Hyperterm LOOKs like it is making changes as you select them, in reality they take effect next time you start the program.

Bay switches use a cable the needs a null modem adapter compared to Cisco, 3 com or even bay routers, so try a null modem adapter.

I find some times control capital Y and control capital C work better than lowercase.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I use a female db9 to female db9 straight thru to connect to the console port.
Make sure you have a flash card in the pcmcia port.

My hyperterm was set for 9600, 8-None-1.

Use the following pin-outs for your cable :-

1 CD Carrier detect (not used)
2 TXD Transmit data (output)
3 RXD Receive data (input)
4 DTR Data terminal ready (not used)
5 GND Signal ground
6 DSR Not used
7 RTS Request to send (not used)
8 CTS Not used
9 RI Ring indicator (not used)
Shell Chassis ground

Try CTRL Y to connect to the console interface.

Make sure Flow control is set to none.

My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.

I had a problem with hyperterminal that was resolved by using a different terminal emulator (also using straight thru DB9f to DB9f).
