DCP Shortcode

DCP Shortcode

(OP)
I am looking into a method how I can restrict users in altering the ringing volume of their phones.
According to IP Office Manager documentation DCP shortcodes can be used to set the volume level of the ringer.

Does anyone know the syntax for a DCP shortcode to set the volume?

RE: DCP Shortcode

This wont help you with your problem as the users will still be able to change the ring vol from the handset.

If a user adjusting there ring tone volume is a serious business issue then this is a problem that needs to be handled by HR

generally true, but there are some situations where being able to control this kind of thing is useful (handsets in meeting rooms for example)

If the handsets are H323, then there are some settings in the 46xxsettings file that may help. They are pretty well documented in the file

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

RE: DCP Shortcode

The vol of handsets in meeting rooms can still be controlled by HR

Notice to all staff "The volume of phones in meeting rooms MUST not be adjusted."

just as a thought - settings the DCP code in user rights should lock it to the desired settings

I don't know the forma of the DCP options however if you set a phone to the desired Vol & then copy it's DCP short code you should have a good base point

Hi IPGuru
I managed to figure out how to disable the ring volume completely using the DCP options, but wasn't able to adjust it to a specific volume level.
There is not enough documentation of what the numbers mean with the DCP options.

The 46xxsettings file has some options but they do not address the function to disallow the user from changing the ringer volume.
It would be nice to have a restriction where you can set the ringer volume to a specified level.

I did not think there was any documentation of the DCP options, but that is something you would have to take up with Avaya

that would have to go to Avaya as a Feature request, but I doubt that they would thing there was sufficient need

RE: DCP Shortcode

if you use ipphone have a look at this:

#################### AUDIBLE ALERTING #######################
##
## Specifies the audible alerting setting for the telephone
## and whether users may change this setting.
##
## A value of 0 turns off audible alerting; user cannot
## adjust ringer volume at all.
## A value of 1 turns on audible alerting; user can adjust
## ringer volume but cannot turn off audible alerting.
## A value of 2 turns off audible alerting; user can adjust
## ringer volume and can turn off audible alerting.
## A value of 3 turns on audible alerting; user can adjust
## ringer volume and can turn off audible alerting.
##
## The default value is 3.
## SET AUDASYS 3

Thank you Karlzre

I have gone into that yes but if you take a closer look at the 34 options none of them allows you to set the volume to a required level and not allowing the user to change it.
Value 0 - turns off audible alerting completely.(we do not want that)
Value 1 - turns on audible alerting and also allows user to change the volume
Value 2 - again turns off audible alerting completely and also allows user to change it.
Value 3 - the default where the user can do anything.

Check this:

n the Telephone Number field, type 84000004,0,1,1,0.
note Note
In the 4000004 portion of the telephone number, the first digit in the sequence preserves the phone's contrast level. This value can be 1 – 9. The last digit in the sequence preserves the phone's ring volume attenuation level. This value can be 0 – 7. Because it is attenuation, the higher the value, the lower the ring volume. For example, 0 is full volume.

But only for digital phones i think

Thank you karlzre !
Great information. It is only for digital phones.
No such control onto IP phones.
