vmware workstation formatting sd cards

vmware workstation formatting sd cards

Has anyone done this? I get a FAT32 file error when attempting to do this. The reason I am using it is so I dont have to uninstall and reinstall manager when I'm on a down system

You don't have to uninstall and re-install manager every time you want to recreate a SD card. You can keep the manager folder for multiple versions of manager on your system in a separate folder. As long as you have manager installed fully the other versions of managers can run. Then you simply run the version of manager you want, change the working directories, and off you go.

I have every version of 9.0, 9.1, 10.0, and 10.1 on my 1TB USB external drive on my computer along with at least 1 version of 8.1 and back all the way to R3. That way I can easily load up those versions of managers for troubleshooting and/or loading that version on my test control unit. I am pretty sure a lot of people do this.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

I keep all system folders from every release SD card I ever created and then instead of recreating it with manager I just copy the right files over.
But I also have folders with the manager for every release on my laptop

Critchey, I have tried this in the past. It didnt seem to work too well for me though. In fact, it corrupted the Sh!t out of my laptop. What is the trick to this?

Westi, could you elaborate on that? Where would i find these files if you simply copy and paste them to the SD card, is there another process afterwords?

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

This is what I do:

Install the version of manager you want (say 9.0.12).
Copy the manager folder (by default C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager) to a new folder (copy do not cut it)

Now install 9.1.11. Once 9.1.11 is installed, you should be able to go to the folder you created with 9.0.12 installed in and run manager.exe.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

so once its loaded and you go to open it...
just change the working directory to the manger folder you just copied?

Uninstall Manager. Install the lowest version you expect to utilize. Once installed, rename the Manager folder to Manager Rx.x. Install the next higher version of Manager, rename Manager folder, lather/rinse/repeat until you have the latest version of Manager running the the plain Manager folder.

Create a folder of short cuts to the Manager.exe in each of the Manager Rx.x folders.

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

I do it the same way TTT does

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

Ya I would do it that way except I have mine in an external drive because my regular drive is not that big. If your c: is big enough that way is perfectly fine. If you want to store them on another drive then how I described would be how to do it. Either will work.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

There is even a Avaya Tech Tip documenting this.

I should probably mention that i have windows 10... this is apparently the issues

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

I also have Windows 10 and have no issues with it. The only issue I have run into with Windows 10 and manager (on customer's computers never on my mine) is when first setup it will act like it is standard mode but is actually still in basic. If you send an offline config it gets around this issue.

That being said I have never had issues Win Vista/7/8/10 with running multiple versions of manager.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

Watch out when re-creating an SD card to an older version with multiple manager folders, it's not the same as looking for .bin files!

In C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\ is a folder called "MemoryCards" and this contains the files needed to re-create the SD card. If you change the working directory in manager the SD card recreation application will not follow it. It always looks for C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\MemoryCards. I work round this by renaming it to MemoryCardsXX.xx then copy the one I require from correct versions "manager" folder.

Hope this makes sense?

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

@Ekster Ya that is not right. The memorycards folder does NOT have all the files the system uses. It has a text file and that file tells the system all the files to use. I know because I edit this file to remove all languages but english on my test system to speed up recreating SD cards. And I know for a fact that it takes that text file from where you have the working/.bin set in manager based on making changes with the languages.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

RE: vmware workstation formatting sd cards

I've definitely create 9.1 cards with 10.1 manager being the main manager installed and just pointing the folders to the correct 9.1 previous manager folder.
