i want a particular app to stop working after a particular date

i want a particular app to stop working after a particular date

(OP)
Hi Guys,
i have created an application in vfp 9.0 , i want to install it as a demo for around 4 months, i know if i put some datetime() and compare to a fix date, then i can stop that application from running when the date is reached, the problem is that, if a user change it is computer date, then most likely he will be able to continue working , the appl. will reside in a Domain server.

i am looking for a solution to allow the appl. to write to the registry keys some kind of restriction there, so that way, there is not way to change that, unless a user gets into the server registry and find out, which i doubt it, or any other suggestion someone have
Thanks

In this case the firm search could have helped you to find thread184-1754898: trial version in vfp

It also offers some other ideas about counting starts or limiting data.

Bye, Olaf.

RE: i want a particular app to stop working after a particular date

The thread that Olaf referenced contains several good ideas.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the user changing the system date, for several reasons. First, you might be surprised to know how few users actually know how to change the system date, or even that it is possible to do so. Remember, most users never poke around in Control Panel or visit any of the system-oriented dialogues or property sheets. Also, changing the system date is quite a drastic thing to do, with all kinds of unwanted effects in many applications, and I suspect many users will be nervous of doing so.

But, if you are still worried about the user changing the system date, you can always use the date on a suitable server (which end-users generally won't be able to tamper with) or from the internet.

RE: i want a particular app to stop working after a particular date

It could feed suspicion if the only use of making an HTTP web request is about checking the time, but that will be much easier if you make use of some server for activation and legitimation/authentication and/or to check for updates, which isn't unusual.

Bye, Olaf.
