Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

(OP)
Hi, we're trying to determine the power draw of a client's Meridian system to properly spec a replacement UPS. It consists of:

6x ATA2
StarTalk Flash
Remote Access device (NT8B80AN)
NT7B53
NTBB20
NTBB41
22 handsets

I'm not a phone guy, I just pulled these numbers directly off of the units. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Awesome, thanks for the link. I don't see handsets listed anywhere. Is that what a SAPS is?

RE: Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

No your "handsets" = "digital sets" on that link....it's there.

SAP is a power supply for a CAP - (48 button add-on module)
You do not have one on the board in the pic.

RE: Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

I've seen hundreds of various phone systems over the years, but the one in the photo is one of the best examples I've seen in a long time. I'd hate to see what it would look like, once a Maintenance engineer had left after doing a fault if any cables were touched!.

"You do not have one on the board in the pic"

I lied

Looks like you do have a SAP, there must be a power bar tucked inside the tray of the phone system for the ATA (third from top)
That thing on the floor from the 80's lasted a long time....I am sure the UPS is not just serving the phone system but it does give that appearance in a funny overkill way.
Cables going through floor below and backup up to cubicles looks like.

I could think of a hundred funny things to say about that motion detector placement too.

RE: Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

For the larger installs such as pictured, rather than use multiple power bars, I use a 4 foot power bar mounted on one side or (usually) along the bottom.

So based on the above, I'm figuring about 250W for the whole thing?

Curlycord - yes, there is a power strip wedged in at the bottom of the main units behind the flipdown doors. Also, that monster UPS feeds most of the outlets in this server room and the adjacent office. It's really just handling the phone system, a couple non-critical servers, and my two PC setups. They were quoted $1800 to replace the 4 internal batteries. The main server cabinet has its own rackmount UPS (APC SMX3000) on a separate circuit. The rest of the UPS cabling including 3-way toggle for UPS/Line/Off:

Firebird/Exsmogger - funny thing is, it pretty much sits there and works. I've never touched it in the 5+ years I've been onsite 2 days/week and I'm not aware of any maintenance done. Like I said, I'm not a phone guy, wouldn't know where to start. Windows server/network admin here.

One last question while I have you guys - is there any way for PowerChute or similar to automate the shutdown of a phone system like this once the battery gets low?

RE: Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

Yes Powerchute can shut down automatically when power is running low and can be adjusted to percentage if I recall.

Let me clarify the question. Yes, I know it can be done for Windows/Linux devices, but can this phone system be nicely shutdown via powerChute or does it not matter?

RE: Power Draw for Nortel Meridian system?

No just shut down the outlet on the back....no com port on KSU.
