BCM 450 IP phones going down

BCM 450 IP phones going down

(OP)
BCM 450 with mostly digital phones and about 10 IP phones. Twice in last week the BCM 450 lost connection to the LAN so of course the IP phones went down. The IT guy could not ping my BCM ip address. I was not on site so he just ended up unplugging the patch cord from his network switch and it eventually connected to my BCM. The secind time it did not right away he tried different ports on his switch. A few questions:
1- is there somewhere in the BCM I could find an error code on why it lost connection?
2- is the network card replaceable in the BCM 450 main cabinet or do you have to swap out the whole thing?
3- Anyone run into this is it a know issue?

When I get on site I am going to test thee cable of course look at the basics. They are up for now. Thanks men (or ladies)!

RE: BCM 450 IP phones going down

You need to log into the BCM with Element Manager and navigate to the Alarm section and look through the event logs.

I just uploaded screenshot of the 'Alarms'. Doesnt show anything for today except me logging into system

RE: BCM 450 IP phones going down

Maybe check other devices on the network and make sure there is no conflict (another device using the same IP)

Yes confirmed that. When we disconnect BCM and try to ping the address it is not hitting anything. Is that ethernet port(s) something that can be replaced if need be?

" he just ended up unplugging the patch cord from his network switch and it eventually connected to my BCM"
and
"When we disconnect BCM and try to ping the address it is not hitting anything"

For me both those statements do not make sense.
1. how do does something connect when you unplug it
2. how can something be pinged if it is disconnected

Ethernet port is a built in NIC card on the BFT.

RE: BCM 450 IP phones going down

It might be interesting when it happens again for the digital set users to see if they can access their voicemail OK. This would indicate that the IP side of things on the BCM would appear to be working fine.

I would also see if you can access your BCM using the OAM port which is usually left at the default IP address of 10.10.11.1 and Subnet 255.255.255.252.

You could leave it connected all the time with a constant ping running in the dos command prompt screen of e.g. ping 10.10.11.1 -t etc.
You could do the same for the LAN port. It sounds to me as if the problem is data switch related and not with the BCM 450 system.

The most common problems with the BCM 450 systems tend to be hard disk or power unit failing.

When you next power cycle the phone system, try and hook up a serial port at 115200 baud with a null modem adapter to watch the full boot up sequence.

Curley cord as far as #1 thats 'just the facts' as Joe Friday on Dragnet said lol. Then again I'm going by end user however they are reliable in this case. #2 is where we were trying to determine if another device was assigned the static ip of our BCM. Doesnt seem to be the case. Thanks men!

RE: BCM 450 IP phones going down

Ahh ok thanks now that makes sense thanks!
Yes I am old enough for that show too, was a good one.

I gave away my age lol So far so good next time i'm on site (it's 1.5 hours away) I'm going to test the network cable to the patch panel and replace patch cords at least cover that base

RE: BCM 450 IP phones going down

The BCM 450 does have a 2nd LAN port if you think there might be something wrong with your 1st LAN port. I've never seen a bad LAN port on a BCM but anything is possible.
