How to resolve - "Hard Ground" on telelphone line connected to Nortel Phone

How to resolve - "Hard Ground" on telelphone line connected to Nortel Phone

(OP)
Howdy.

I have an AT&T telephone line that was recently without dial tone.
The lines from AT&T are cross connected to a 66 block and the bridged to the other side that connect to the Nortel system and phones.

AT&T repaired the dial tone issue but stated we had a "hard ground" on the phone side and that we need to put the bridge clips back on for it to work.

I placed the bridge clips back on the line that was in question, and it worked just fine.
Then, a day or two late, there was no more dial tone.

It is the 2nd line on the phone set, and when you press LINE 2, no dial tone.
If you check for tone at the MPOE, there is none.
BUT, when you remove the bridge clips, I get tone on the 66 block and the AT&T MPOE. Just not on the phone itself.

I replaced the cross connects, re-punched and even tried a different set of pairs on the 66 block.
Still nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THanks!

RE: How to resolve - "Hard Ground" on telelphone line connected to Nortel Phone

So, when you connect the line to the Nortel, disltone is lost. When you isolate the line from the Nortel, dialtone rsturns.

If all wiring from the 66 block to the Nortel has been proven, it would point to a bad port in the Nortel.

try to reverse Tip and Ring because the ground may not hurt if it is on the correct wire.
Not a solution but a workaround
