Hello

I have IP phones connected to a server edition.
The phones work fine but now and then some phones will display extn =, # to register.
We then register them afresh. This is occurring too frequently.
Why is this and how can it be resolved?

They have hot desk enabled but no one uses the hotdesk.

Yes. Base extension matching user extn

All users have hot desk. If I remove log-in code from the Supervisor setting under Telephony tab I get errors in the Error pane.
Is hot desk causing the phones to regularly un-register?

Check the login period under the login code in the user's telephony tab. It should be blank, otherwise the user is logged out after that period expires.

is forced login enabled on these users? If they are agents then it is a must to have that and a reboot of the system or the phone would cause that

forget about it I just looked at the .doc and forced login is not enabled.

The users are not agents.
Are you suggesting that I enable forced login?

To be clear... Expects the phoebe user to login with his credentials or is the complete extension deregistered?

Judging by the OPs track record and past experience I can almost guarantee this is misconfiguration and/or misunderstanding how things work :)

Yeah... Depending on how the situation is you have to start at a completely different point with troubleshooting.

Here is how I understand it.
1. Created base extension 1268 with phone password 126810
2. Created user XYZ with password 101268, extension 1268, Telephony- Supervisor- Log in code 101268, Force log in unchecked
3. Connected phone
4. Prompted for extension, entered 1268 OK
5. Prompted for password, entered 126810 OK
6. Phone comes up as extension 1268 and with user xyz

After a system reboot or phone being unplugged, some phones (not all but configuration steps are as above for all) will show enter extn =
# to register.

I apologize for the track record, and beg for your support to excel.

Once they're all logged in where they should be remove their telephony log in codes

Two hats on a hook. One says to the other, 'You stay here and I'll go on ahead.'

The 6 steps described above are ok. This way it will work. No logout, even after reboot.

But what you wrote earlier sounds wrong:

If there is an extension with matching number to the user, then there is no error message. Only, if there is no extension. Because in this case the user cannot work unless he uses hot-desking. Hence the error if no hot-desking code is set.

Do not confuse the extension password, the user password and the hot-desking code (supervisor).

Are those users member in a hunt group where agent status on no answer is used?
What type of extension did you configure?
What type of phones do you have?
IP Office version and release?

Take the password out of the extension but leave it in the user and see if that solves it.
If not make both passwords the same.

look at the SSA and make sure that each user or ext matches the base ext if it does not that is your problem. It sound like you are using IP Phones make sure you are not trying to program a digital ext with the same user ext number.
