Server x3550 7978 ServeRAID 8K-L Firmware Corrupted

I was experiencing the x3550 server running slow with a new installation. I started updating firmware and during the upgrade of the ServeRAID firmware to 17003, we had a power hiccup and the server shut off because it was on the bench, not in the rack with a UPS. When I boot I get "The firmware in the controller is corrupted" Error code 86. I've made the floppies for upgrading the firmware and it always says it updated successfully. Still getting this error. The screen shows the correct version.

What can I do to get this resolved? Thanks!!!

Not to kick you while you're down, but not too swift!! Power problems can happen at any second but especially when you're flashing BIOS or firmware. Time for a UPS on the bench.

You may be hosed, but try this.

I was flashing the ServeRAID, not the system BIOS. The system BIOS works fine, already at the latest version - 1.17.

RE: Server x3550 7978 ServeRAID 8K-L Firmware Corrupted

First off, you understand that the Serveraid 8K-l is just a raid enable card, and the actual raid card is on the motherboard, and so yes, you are flashing a part of the motherboard bios? but any way, Try the zero-mode flash, I have had some success doing it, but if that fails, you need to replace the motherboard. Instructions for Zero-mode are here. Had to use this, when AT&T flashed some servers remotely and it borked up the raid FW, a few years ago when I worked for big blue.

RE: Server x3550 7978 ServeRAID 8K-L Firmware Corrupted

I gave you the wrong link and since it's not a discrete card, you can't recover from this with "just" a raid card replacement if the above recovery doesn't work. Maybe you can spin the blame onto your boss for not letting you purchase a UPS for the tech bench area. Otherwise, you have to admit to acting recklessly causing the fubar situation.

For the kids watching at home - never flash anything without a good UPS connected. I don't care if it's a $30 router or a DVD-RW firmware. You can brick it in about 1/2 second if the power does anything funky.
