Outside lines ringing on analog extension

Outside lines ringing on analog extension

(OP)
Tried searching the forums and found nothing on this subject, so...
Ok this can't be that difficult. 2 issues.
Customer with brand new R9 Basic mode after upgrade from Partner. Has analog cordless phone plugged into an analog extension port on dig/combo card and fax in the other.
Does not want outside calls ringing on this phone, only intercom calls. Have tried setting lines to no ring but line ringing option is greyed out.
Next, tried setting ALS to pick intercom first. That doesn't work either. They have to go off hook, then switchhook flash to get intercom DT.

These seem like basic telephony options to me that worked on the Partner, yet somehow are borked on this system.
It seems ridiculous that an IP Office mode that's supposed to migrate existing Partner users, would drop basic Partner functionality. Or am I missing something?

Would these options be available in standard mode? If so I'd rather do it now before they get to used to the system as is.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh, and as an aside...

Changing to "standard mode" does require an Essential License, correct, maybe?

Having usually done Preferred or Essential from the get-go, haven't really paid attention to that.

Wouldn't want to change and then lose functionality after the trial, let alone having to eat the license fee.

Regards

RE: Outside lines ringing on analog extension

The Avaya IP Office Basic Mode (aka Quick Mode & Partner Mode) does not have an easy way to
control ringing for the Analog Station Ports with CO Lines.

The Basic Mode has two “System Modes” within itself, Key System and PBX System.

Here are the rules as I have discovered them: IPO Basic 9.0.5

Key System Mode:
All CO Lines are programmed by default to appear and ring on ALL Analog Station Ports.
This includes the Analog Station Ports on Combo Cards, Phone 2 and Phone 8 Cards as well.
However, Analog Station Ports on ETR Cards are not affected by this and can be programmed.
You can remove any of the CO Lines from the Analog Station Ports, but you cannot change the ringing.
The best that you can do is to put the Analog Station Port(s) in Do Not Disturb to stop the ringing.
Of course, this also stops any other phone in the system from calling the Analog Station Port(s) on the
Intercom.

PBX System Mode:
All CO Lines are programmed by default to not appear or ring on ALL Analog Station Ports.
This includes the Analog Station Ports on Combo Cards, Phone 2 and Phone 8 Cards as well.
However, Analog Station Ports on ETR Cards are not affected by this and can be programmed.
You can program CO Lines to appear on the Analog Station Ports, but you cannot make them ring.
The best that you can do is to put the Analog Station Port(s) in a Hunt Group and then program that
Hunt Group to ring on a CO Line.

Note: If you use the PBX Mode, there will be 3 Intercom Buttons instead of 2.
This cannot be changed.

That's how it works.

Your own first three words describe the product.

You can add an ETR Card (if you have room) which has programmable CO Line Appearance and Ringing.
Or you can spend a couple of hundred dollars (US) of your money to fix the problem by going to Standard Mode.

There are other "surprise" short falls in this system that will jump out and bite you and your wallet.

My advice is to sell another product line.

RE: Outside lines ringing on analog extension

Billxx is right. They don't let you program analog ports on the combo card properly...only on ETR cards. Pretty ridiculous.

You would need the essential edition license to move to standard mode, but it is well worth it as you can then manipulate whatever you would like.

RE: Outside lines ringing on analog extension

You have to remove the line appearances (just change them to "Blank") on 9.0+ systems in Basic/Partner mode. That will stop the incoming calls to ring on those phones. To make an outside call, you will need to dial 8 + the line number (801 for line one, and so on...).

Dan

I blame Avaya.

Your last four words are excellent advice.

Thanks for all the replies and for confirming my suspicions.

I've already removed the lines and told them the "801,02,03" option, but they're already miffed about grabbing busy lines and having to start the whole shebang.
Would be nice if they could just dial "9", but then the lines would need to be assigned and we're back to the whole ringing issue again.
The Basic engineers need to get their act together as these convoluted workarounds are anything but "basic".
It's as if they're saying "Oh sure, we'll sell you this inexpensive system...but if you want it to work, you'll need to by these expensive addons."
Oh you want access to lines, but don't want them to ring on your phone? That's a $500 License upgrade.

Ridiculous...

RE: Outside lines ringing on analog extension

IP Office Basic and Standard modes are both riddled with constant problems.

It seems that every time they come out with a new release to add features and fix old troubles, new troubles (and old) are introduced.

You will find yourself going out time after time trying to resolve crazy troubles like you have never seen before.
Each time you do this, your customer is loosing faith in you.
After all, this is an Avaya product and it must be good if not the best out there.

My advice is to sell another product line.

RE: Outside lines ringing on analog extension

We use ETR ports for anything analog. Solves that problem period.
