How to: Clone Samsung OfficeServ 7200 SD card and/or Backup OfficeServ 7200 Operating System?

Hello,

Can someone tell me how you either clone the Samsung OfficeServ 7200 SD card or Backup OfficeServ 7200 Operating System found on the SD card?

We need to ensure we have a suitable backup in case the SD card that came with our Samsung OfficeServ 7200 fails.

Thanks

RE: How to: Clone Samsung OfficeServ 7200 SD card and/or Backup OfficeServ 7200 Operating System?

As you are working for a solicitors company I suggest you talk to one of them before continuing down this path.

they have an embedded serial number to prevent users using the same licences on multiple systems.

in the unlikely event of a failure (it is far more likely for the PBX itself to fail I cant remember the last time I saw an sd card failure) your system maintainer should be able to replace this & swap the licences without difficulty

there is no serial number on the sd card. The licences are tied to the mac address of the proceser card and are not held on the sd card. We swap them all the time when doing system upgrades. You will have problems formating and creating a new sd card as the early samsungs use fat 8 to format them. you can buy a new samsung card for a few £ . the system does not boot from the sd card but it needs to see the sd card to boot so you can remove it when the system is running and copy it but if you re boot it the system will not start

Tek-Tips actually has a forum dedicated to Samsung telephone systems. Here is the URL:

Posting in that forum will get questions in front of a greater number of Samsung technicians. smile

@ IPGuru: Why would I need to speak to our end users first? Thanks for the rest of your advice.

@ hostedphone: Thanks for the detailed reply. Speaking with Samsung in their Telecommunications and Networks department I'm told it's FAT16 and "They are specifically formatted for our systems by us. An off-the-shelf card would not operate correctly."

So in other words it's best to buy a new spare one. Thanks.

@ Dexman: Thanks. I had a look. I see the forum it's quite hidden away.

Hi metcalfes, did you manage to sort out your cloning of the SD card? if not then here is some advice..
Firstly it is not illegal or inappropriate to clone your SD card infact we do it all the time as software becomes corrupt due to network or line spikes.
the card is formatted in FAT not FAT 16 and the size of the card is very important. a @gb is probably the highest that the system can read.
simply make a backup of the existing database on the system and put it in a location that you can access it later and copy and paste all the files on the existing card to the new card. once you have done this boot your system with the new card. it will have default settings but athis stage you can upload your backep up database. your system should now be identical to what it was.

Thanks Samsungtech,

Which is the maximum size SD card you recommend? Your post says @gb? Does it matter what speed/class card you use?

Thanks again.
