Group on Product type and skip detail records under product type

(OP)
I have different product types in multiple cities with a report listing the product type in each city with the detail records of each type grouped by city. I am trying to get a subtotal of all of the different product types skipping the detail records. I have tried having a header/footer for the product type and in footer setting Control Source =1
and running sum = Over group., but this just counts of ALL of the product types each time and not just in the group. Any help would be appreciate...

RE: Group on Product type and skip detail records under product type

I would simply create the totals queries that would calculate the number of unique product types by city. Then add this query to your report's record source and join on the city field. You can then display the number in your report without any running sums.
