HTML to Wordpress

HTML to Wordpress

(OP)
Simple question, but maybe not so simple answer.

I have a current HTML static site that I want to convert to WordPress.

All the pages will have the same layout.

Where would I begin so Wordpress will let me update the content through its wysiwyg editor ?

I don't know if you can answer without exactly walking through the specific coding..

Any thoughts?

RE: HTML to Wordpress

Start with a blank template and paste the sections of HTML code into the appropriate files of the theme.

Install the theme you have built in the usual way and activate it.

Then make any "tweaks" in Appearance -> Editor.

If you want you can then take or screenshot of the completed template, resize it and replace screenshot.png if you want a thumbnail in the dashboard.

what about being able to update the content the same as any other WordPress theme by going into the admin dashboard and create a new Page etc..?

RE: HTML to Wordpress

It's exactly the same as it works wih ANY template/theme, all you are doing is putting your HTML and CSS into the template so the Wordpress core functions use it to create the final page.

For example;
You put your "header" HTML code into 'header.php. it's just like using SSI (Server Side Includes) to build the final output from several separate files.

Okay?

So do you want to know how to put the content into WordPress or how to create a template from your existing site?
