What happens to Page and Link Structure if converting HTML site to Wordpress?

What happens to Page and Link Structure if converting HTML site to Wordpress?

(OP)
Hi all,

I have a static html site that I want to convert to a Wordpress blog.

All the files on the site end in ".html" and follows a typical site structure. Example:

http://www.mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com/thispage.html
http://www.mysite.com/folder/anotherpage.html

ETC...

So, if I migrate the entire site over to a wordpress blog - what happens to the site's page and link structure? Can the original page and link structure somehow be preserved? I actually prefer this.

If site and link structure can not be preserved - then would there be a way to permanently redirect all old page files to the new wordpress page files?

All comments, insights, and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

you can set up permalink rules in the administration of WP.

However if, say, the current link structure is not all that intuitive or you want to create a more structured url hierarchy then this is a good time to look at that and set up 301 redirects.

Hi Darryn,

Thanks! Also, might you be able to direct me to a software script or service (or even a set of instructions) that can do this... convert an html site to wordpress? Thanks again.

there is not way to just convert a static site to wordpress.

first the wordpress site has to be created.
then content needs to be migrated.

you can either learn this or hire someone to do this. Costs vary usually based on customization requests. Picking a standard theme that has already been created will keep costs minimum but have pretty limited customization. It all depends on your needs.
