What I would like to know is if it is possible, without having to flip the system to Muppet mode, to execute a 72# and later a 73# to deactivate on an essential edition IPO 500 system?

Lately we have been replacing old legacy systems where users are used to doing call forwarding directly to the analog line using 72#<phone number>. Since we are replacing the old system with Essential Editions we do the call forwarding the usual way by activating trunk to trunk connection, however we have encountered several situation that make this call forwarding very challenging for example; a customer wanting to call forward to different numbers or a customer wanting to see the caller ID of the incoming call because if they missed it they want to be able to see who called to return the call. With the IP Office in PBX mode you only get the caller ID of the PBX and not the real incoming call unless you use PRI or SIP trunks.

Use a short code

SC #72
Feature Dial
Tel No. 72#<Tel no.>
Line ID 1

SC #73
Feature Dial
Tel No. 73#<Tel no.>
Line ID 1

I had to do something a few months back, sounds like what your trying to achieve.

elly10,

Yes I thought about that but the problem I see is that if you do that you need to separate the lines into two independent outgoing group IDs otherwise how do you guarantee that the PBX is picking up the line you want? This will give you two separate outgoing group ID’s for outgoing calls and unless there is a way to group them in ARS that I am not aware off then we still have problem.

Yes, give line 1 a different outgoing ID, a separate ARS, and make that ARS the overflow for the main ARS, so it gets used in the normal course of calling (just becomes last outgoing choice)

Just put a Line Appearance button on the phone for the line in which that user will want to forward.
Tell the user to press the Line Appearance button to do the forwarding.

You can put line appearances on phones if you are not in muppet mode. I have clients in IP Office mode that have line appearances that do exactly what you are talking about. Doctors offices like this feature a lot since most are already used to forwarding at night using #72.

Telecomboy, I thought about line appearances and I will do that if I have enough buttons otherwise I am going to play with the ARS, which I belive is a great alternative, besides I need to learn more about it to use its full potential. Thanks everybody...!

If space is an issue, you can just put the main telephone line appearance on the operator phone. Then, to forward they need to do it from that phone by going off-hook on that line and pressing the feature code. I've had a Dr office that wanted to do it that way.

you could always suggest that they stop paying the monthly charge for callforwarding at the telco level, and program up the IPO to do it, with a button even.

Grey, agree however the problem I have is they they want IPO to send caller ID info on an analog trunk to trunk call at that is a no go.

Thanks...!

I use the #72 and #73 at the line appearance level because I have had two instances now where the analog lines come in through an Adtran from the carrier and Adtran doesn't always drop the voltage to zero when a call is finished after the transfer. Therefore the IP Office thinks the call is still in progress and holds on to both lines - in one case for 10 days before I noticed...So for a smaller location the 72/73 seems the most reliable especially if that is what they are used to.
