Most of the time someone sets up hdmi, it doesn't use the sound card, but digital audio from the video card. On my HTPC I have to enable ATI digital audio for it to work, and digital audio on the tv, as the HDMI 1 plort, also can have an analog input from RCA jacks.

If they are not actual hardware settings that you have changed (but software settings) then maybe using System Restore to revert back to an earlier configuration is an option?

Did you try System Restore to get back to when everything worked?

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista (or 7)

realtek do conventional sound devices. Normally HDMI audio is delivered from your Gfx card. Something doesn't seem right.

1. Go to Start and click on control Panel.
2. Click in Sound, then a new window will open up.
3. In the new windows click on the tab “Playback" and right click in the window and click on Show Disabled devices.
4. Now check if the AOC or YOUR GFX Card (HD Audio) is listed there and right click on it and choose enable.
5. Highlight that AOC Monitor/HD Audio and click on "Set as Default".

make sure that the HDMI cable is attached to the GFX card and the monitor. Otherwise Windows will not recognize the HD Audio output for the GFX card.

OK, could you give us a bit more information:

1. Graphics Card that you are using.
2. Mainboard.
3. Software you are using to view said videos.
4. perhaps a screenshot or two from the device manager, sound control panel applet, and the sound configuration page of the video-viewer.

more we have to work with, is going to get a better and quicker solution.

What is your video card? It should have that listed there, unless it's using the intel graphics from the cpu. If you are sure you had AOC listed before, reload the driver for the AOC.

Assets, on the 18th September I had asked for some basic information...

but alas two weeks later, even after you had posted, still non given...

My guess is that you really do not want this issue resolved, and am thus not inclined to continue from this point forward...

Good luck...

Could you please list the model on the PC you have, e.g. HP Pavilion HP7740, etc. that would help us greatly in identifying what hardware you actually have...

because up til now, all we have is a confused mess at present...

Have you tried the original drivers, as this is a mobile video chip on some weird desktop adapter, that hp had built, so the updated driver files from Nvidia may not work right. Here is the link for the driver page. Also, you say you don't see the AOC monitor listed, if you go to resolution change, and select detect, it may update the inf to the AOC. My Acer sometimes drops out, after a driver update, and I just click detect, then it will update, and give me the correct monitor info.

OK, there is a known issue under Windows 7, in that when one upgrades from Vista or sometimes does a reinstall of the OS, that AUDIO devices (especially HDMI) stop working as they should...

here is what you do:

1. if you have IDT Audio/Video drivers, then uninstall them along with your nVidia graphics driver.
2. reboot and let Windows reinstall all drivers.
3. then go to the sound applet and choose HDMI right click and set as standard.
4. test.

also see if you can garner more information from the following thread:

Windows 7 - No HDMI audio out with Windows 7
