Hello all,

I am new to AIX and am trying to edit my company's back.script file on our AIX server. I want to update the file to inculde the new email addresses of myself and my supervisor. Any suggestions that can be given to help get this done would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your response to this thread.

By 'back.script' do you mean a backup script which processes your backups and then notifies the email addresses you need to change? I think I'd copy the original file: cp -p <filename> <filename_copy> and then edit the original (using vi assuming you have a working knowledge of that?) to make your changes.

Not sure whether this helps, but the learning curve for vi and AIX in general isn't trivial, so get yourself some training as soon as possible! Good luck.

Thanks KenCunningham....you are correct I am trying to edit the file using vi and am having difficulty editing it. Any further tips on how to edit the file using vi would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Now when I go to edit this file back.script it says in the bottom left corner in brackets that it is a new file. I have no idea how that can be since the file was already existed. If I inadvertently deleted it is there a way for me to recover it from the backups that were done prior to my change? Please respond ASAP
