Anyone have a link to the R8 demo kit license upgrade form? I tried the Avaya site but can only find a form form 2009.

Thanks.

you need to go to your disty for this as i presume you must be placing the request through them anyway

The form there dates to 2011 and does not have the licenses to get me to 8.0.43 so I can demo the 96xx phones.

There's a gotcha to the current demo kits - I've just received mine (shipped directly from the US to Australia) as a Release 8 Control Unit but with Release 7 licenses on the CD which of course doesn't include Essential so most of the other 19 licenses are dormant. It was suggested to downgrade to R7, make a call to trigger the 90/100 day timer then go back up to R8 to trigger the virtual Essential license but that hasn't worked (didn't think Avaya would leave a hole like that to avoid buying Essential licenses) so I have to apply for an Essential license.

Somebody has slipped up there!

Interestingly it came with a 9630G instead of the 9641G which was listed in the R7 demo doco.

The 9630 is because the 96x1 where not supported at that time.

The demo kit case looks small but will apparently fit one ip500 and two or three phones plus power supplies. Not much for 200 hundred bucks but I suppose you do get the logo. Perhaps you can fit a case of beer in it or use it to carry lego blocks. I can find a hard case for a hundred that will fit the equipment and I can paint the logo on with crayon. Pretty sure that the branded soft case will protect little.

Avaya have sent me both an R8 upgrade license and a trial Essential license with the instruction to try the upgrade first and see what happens.

That's what I like to see, confidence in their own product smile

Avaya does but the BP doesn't this time smile

Success!

I've updated the firmware on my demo system from 7.0.31 to 8.0.43. The process was a bit flaky and kept failing although it worked OK the first time I downgraded and upgraded in an attempt to create the virtual Essential license. I applied the supplied upgrade license and all demo licenses are valid.

In doing the upgrade it kept failing so I did just the base firmware for the system and then did all the other files in a second pass after a reboot. I did get an error advising there were no voicemail files for the Australian locale but after another reboot that cleared. I haven't set up VM Pro yet.

I was having issues with CLI not displaying and an analogue phone in a hunt group not ringing on incoming calls but after setting the gains on the lines to -0.5dB all is working properly with no other changes (using Bell 202 for CLI). After a few reboots setting up various program changes, the gains on the lines seem to be staying put too.

I am not hugely experienced on these yet (former BCM installer) but I haven't done the programming any different and it all just seems to work as my older Release 6 systems do.
