I just received a BCM50 w/ 5 IP 1230 phones.

I set-up the BCM via element manager, but being my first crack at using IP phones I have no idea how to program these phone. I have a POE switch (exp cab), and wall wart adapter to plug in the phones for programming, but can't find what the IP address is to get into the phone programming. Right now if I plug them into the system they sit there and stare at me with "NEW SET" and asking for a password...

Can someone help me out on this, I'd much appreciate it?

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Stefan you are almost there.  Do all the sets come up with the new set message?  If so the phones are already pointed to your BCM I address.

In element manager:
Go into resources>telephony resources>ip sets and then go down to the bottom tab that says "ip terninal global settings" and toggle the "enable global registration tab" on or off and the ip phones should start flashing "connecting to server" and boot up with auto assigned DNs.

Let me know if it worked!

I did as instructed right up till getting to ip sets, then everything is gray I can't go into anything in the settings.

Is there a pw for the NEW SET screen on the phones, yes all 5 say net set on them..

Thanks for your help, I'm glad you guys are out there to help the newbies like me...

Do you have IP set key code installed?

I'm not going to say yes, but they were suppose to be pre-installed when we got it.

This is what we have:

BCM50 R6.0
BCM50 Exp cabinet
Exp Port Key Code
GATM8
4 Analog Trunks
4 Mailbox
6 IP Telephony Clients
2 Analog Stations

Setting up for 12 incoming lines (2 - Verizon,3 - Vonage,2 - MagicJack currently), and only 5 IP 1230 phones currently.

There is a key code for the clients and user sets in the system, but still no luck...
