Hi

I have 2 IPO on R8. A main IPO and a failover IPO.

If I have a physical ext logged in and turnoff the main unit the ext fails over to the failover box.

If I have a hot desk user when the main system goes down the phones fail to log onto the failover IPO. It just sits there saying please enter ext.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks
Nick

I have seen this behavior.
Your phones must have a base extension for this to work.
Hotdesking and failover just fails big time.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The only way to make failover work when using hotdeskers is to make the base extension the same to the users number. If not, then then you need a AVAYA IP Endpoint licence per user in the failover unit.

Hi

Bas1234 if have been testing this in my lab with just 1 ext and still doesn't failover yet I have an endpoint available with the vcm card

I have 350 users on this system who are all hot deskers. They also have another IPO that has 200 hotdeskers both with failover IPO. All base ext are different from users ext. Customer will not be happy if we have to change the base ext to match the users ext.

The other issue I keep getting that if I do a reoot  and you are hot desk in the instantly looks for the failover box. It happens to quick. Yet if your a physical user it works fine

Thanks for your help

That will never work unless you have a failover system per site,  384 extensions (minus the analog and ds ports) on one failover unit is the max. So you need a fail over unit per site.

Then you only option is to add AVAYA IP Endpoints licences to the fallback extension! I have had a case on this with AVAYA and it is solved by AVAYA IP Endpoints licences. There is a NFR on this if im not mistaken.

Bas, has that to do with Franks old customer?
I know he had an issue with this before he became a colleague.

Hi Bas

Sorry if I sound silly but add IP ENDPOINTS to the fallback ext?

I have 12 IP ENDPOINTS on the fallback system but this did not work

Must work if you have IP endpoints but only for 12 extensions then.

More info on the user setup/dhcp servers/vlan/network

Hi

2 main sites one in London and one inPeterbrough. The fallback IPO are in the other location I.e LOndon fallback is in Peterbrough. The sites are connected by a 100meg data pipe. Both sites have a local
Windows dhcp server where the 1608/1616handsets get there IP Address from. All voice traffic on the network is carried over 1 VLan which is VLan 11.

320 users on IPO in London ( 8.0.18) 200 users in Pererbrough (18.0.18)

7000-7499 base exts in London
7500-799 Bas exts in Pet

Users ext 3/4 London
Users ext 5/6 Pet

If I add physical user with ext fallback works fine. It's only when it's dummy ext number with no profile phone hits second system and says please enter ext

Hope this helps

Nick

Hi

Just to et everyone know I have and confirmation from Avaya that if you have a base ext that doesn't have a user associated with it then the failover IPO doesn't learn about them, hence why the phones kept coming up with "please enter ext"?

You must be a physical user or be a hotdesk user that has an ext in the range of the base extensions

This has caught me out big time and there doesn't seem to be any documentation on it from Avaya which is a bit of a disappointment

Nick
