Document Send Extension: Error Trapping

Document Send Extension: Error Trapping

(OP)
Where can I trap a SMTP error when sending emails with the document send extension? I take the emails from a SQL database used for the clients financial system so I don't have control over how the users enter email addresses. What happens is that they enter 2 email addresses for one customer split with a ';' which returns an error in my program when I try to send emails to the customers.

error: SMTP Error: RCPT TO:->501 5.1.3 invalid address

I would like to catch the error and post it to a log file with the customers details so that we know which customer's emails failed. I have tried a few different ways of trapping errors but none have worked so far. I have not worked much with the document send extension.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
