It has always intrigued me to know the reason why the file names on my camera are capitalized and when I call them into Photoshop, readjust them and re-save them (save as...), the file name changes to lower case.
Is there any good reason for this?

Perhaps I should explain further that it is the extension that usually changes case, i.e. .JPG to .jpg

That is set in preferences, file handling, file saving options, extensions.

It is best practice to keep the case of filenames constant to prevent frustrating file name errors.
