Where in the world do Tek-Tips members come from?

(ADTRAN 916)(D-Link DGS-1024D)(D-Link DAP-1522) ?

Hello,

I was asked to design a network (by yesterday) starting from ADTRAN 916 (aka Gateway), then install it (today).

I'm told that FirstComm already delivers T1 (with 5 static IP addresses) to Gateway, but my predecessor was unable to obtain any internet signal from Gateway.

FirstComm, Gateway, switch, and patch panel reside in network closet.

Network needs to deliver wired internet to at least 8 devices. Network needs to deliver 2 different WiFi networks (1 public for guests, 1 private for internal use).

Wired and WiFi devices and WAPs reside in suite of rooms on 2 floors.  Nearest room is about 20 feet away from network closet.  Furthest room maybe 200 feet away horizontally plus 1 floor higher.

Budget is shoestring and completion deadline is immediate.

I can only use equipment already in stock, preferably at Chicago location of Micro Center.

Others will perform cabling and carpentry.

I have not yet bought any equipment, so I don't know exactly which models I'll receive (I am not the one who actually does the buying).

This is my design.

(9 Pin Male to 9 Pin Female Straight Through Serial Cable) from Gateway to laptop running VT100 emulator to configure Gateway.

Plan to use firewall and router inside the Gateway.

CAT6 from 10/100 port on Gateway to (D-Link DGS-1024D 24-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Rack Mountable Switch, aka Switch).

There are at least 2 different models of Switch.  Check Switch to determine model, then configure it.

CAT6 from Switch to each of 2 copies of (D-Link Xtreme N Duo Wireless Bridge / Access Point, aka WAP).

The WAP docs I find online (DAP-1522) are discouraging.  They want me to connect WAP to a WiFi router.  I want to connect WAP (via Switch) to wired router in Gateway.

In general, what is the best way to design this network?

Can my design succeed?

In specific, can I use cables to connect DAP-1522 WAP via D-Link DGS-1024D Switch to ADTRAN 916 router inside Gateway, and get everything to function successfully?

Do I need to quit the plan to use the D-Link DAP-1522 WAP, and find a WAP which encourages connection to wired router?

Thank you.
