I have a conexant D330  that is not handshaking with a Older Crycal I Modem,  I can use a external 33.6 or slower and it connects just fine using either procom or hyperterminal, I have updated the bios on the laptop, i have made sure I have the latest driver from the Dell web site,    any insite would be appriciated

this is another way of putting it,
if I use procomm plus and and put in "AT+MS=V22" before the normal ATDTX,YYYY-ZZZZ   it does connect using the internal modem, as this is a modulation control commands,  However i must re-do that command, each time I restart procomm,   is this something I can write to a particular S register ? it is a Conexant D330 Modem & Dell support has not been very helpful at all

Haven't used Procomm for donkey's years...!

You should be able to create a script file for Procomm with that command in it.  File would be saved as  whatevername.asp  and it could automatically be actioned when you start Procomm.  Something like this:

TRANSMIT "AT+MS=22^M"

You could also add in the number to dial as well...
