I am using FrontPage 2002. Regretfully, I don't use it every day, only about once a quarter, and between disk crashes and everything else, some assumptions have moved.

as I recall, in the beginning, I was told to craft an index page in FrontPage, then publish it to the web address, in which manner, I had a complete web page on my pc and one in cyberspace. somehow this went awry.

also, I remember opening web-sites, and being able to click |edit|edit in front page|. that facility must have gone away.

now, with this background . . . I am sitting here with FrontPage open, allegedly with my web open, and it looks lovely. I have been |save|ing it as I toodle along. it is my recollection that, at one time, saving the page also published it.

I opened my browser, and was not happy to see the display is not changed from the last time I changed it, like last September. note that, because of the time lag, I haven't the faintest idea what I did last September, but it worked!

going back to FrontPage, I tried to |Publish| the page, and I got a dialogue box saying ??Where?? so I told it, and it said, you can't do that, that web-site is open [duh]

In recap, I have a published web page, and I have an edited page open in FrontPage on my computer. I need the basic instruction on how to establish a link between the two versions and to update the published version.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I am ODing on anti-depressants here!

If I am reading this right, you are having trouble matching up what is on your computer and what is on your website?

There are two ways to publish/update your site:

1. Create the website on your computer > Click publish > Enter the URL (e.g. http://www.mywebsite.com (and the /foldername if applicable for some hostings) > Enter your user name and apassword. When completed you should get a "Done" message.

2. You can open the website direct via FrontPage by clicking Open Web > Typing in the URL > User name password etc > Your web folders should open directly in FrontPage > Make the changes > Save the files > Close the Web.

Needless to say a refresh on your browser should see the changes take immediate effect.

I find the latter as 2 the most efficient way as I have a browser open with the website I'm working on so each time I make a change, I refresh it ans see the results.

I'm sorry if I'm going down the wrong avenue here, post back and let us know.
