Hi,
I'm installing Visual FoxPro 6.0.
I want to upgrade it to SP5, but I cannot find the installer. The filename is "VS6sp5Ot.exe"

I searched through the forum, and also searched the file on google, but I found only the following, no longer valid links. If anybody has downloaded this file before, please help me and send the file to me.

NOT WORKING LINKS:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/downloads/updates/sp/vs6/sp5/sp5_fp_en.aspx
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vstudio60ent/SP5/Wideband-Other/WIN98Me/EN-US/VS6sp5Ot.exe
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718363.aspx

Thank you in advance.
Commander

How about SP6?
Foxpro was part of Visual Studio at the time.

Commander,

Do you know that VFP6 is an extremely old version of Visual FoxPro? Although there are still developers using it, the vast majority of serious VFP work is now done in VFP 9.0, which is more up to date, has considerably more features, and fewer bugs.

I mention this only because you say you are installing VFP 6.0. For a small extra cost - and no extra effort - you could install the latest version.

Mike

Hi, thank you for your idea, but it doesn't include any updates for VFP6. It includes only Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C++ 6.0 with Visual Source Safe 6.0d updates. SP5 is the last one for VFP6.
I also just downloaded VS6SP6.exe and checked its contents.

Don't you accidentaly have VS6sp5Ot.exe somewhere? Maybe you could upload it to any free file hosting, because it might be too big to send as an attachment.

Mike Lewis: The last version VFP9, which I also have, isn't compatible with the old project which I need to open.
Really all what I'm looking for is the VFP6 SP5.

while it's certainly causing less problems to open a VFP6 project in VFP6, VFP9 is capable to open/read and work on a VFP6 project, the only downside may, you then make the PJX/PJT  incompatible with VFP6, also working on project files they might get a little update, as structures changed a bit, but not very much, eg you now have tha anchor property and by opening and saving a form(class) you can cause trouble in VFP6, not knowing that property.

But if you work on a copy of the project, that should just be fine.

There are some things you might need to change for a build to work, eg in VFP6 it was possible to write some lengthy variable declaration LOCAL ... with line concatenation ; and you could forget to add a , between the variable names of one line and the next.

In general VFP9 is a more strict compiler and you'll need to make some changes which actually can be very good for finding and fixing some errors.

As long as this project does not need to stay with VFP6 for whatever reasons, work on it with VFP9.

Bye, Olaf.

As a side note: I started VFP with version 6 and our company had SP5, but that would be at least 9 years old, don'T expect that to exist, not even in backups.

Bye, Olaf.

Thanks Olaf. I will wait a little longer, if somebody could find the file (VS6sp5Ot.exe), but if not, I'll try to make it run under VFP9, following your advice.

Now I come to think of it, I have a client who wanted  the latest service packs for VFP 6.0. We spent a couple of hours together searching Microsoft and other sites. In the end, we gave up, and he decided to upgrade to 9.0. That was a year ago.

I'm not saying that the SPs aren't available, but, if they are, you might have a tough time finding them.

I'm sure you'll find that it will be worthwhile to upgrade to 9.0.

Mike

Well, my version of VFP6 is at SP5, although I don't have the file you specify.

I have a set of 8 files that I think I used to update the original installation (all dated 2001)

Do you want them?

Regards

Griff

GriffMG: Thank you very much. But I believe your files don't include updates for VFP6. It is the part of SP5 which is intended for Visual Basic only. Therefore the B in the name. The updates for VFP should have O in the name.

I found this description:

Service Pack 5 is available in three different versions localized in nine languages. In addition, two types of downloads are available—multiple files (approximately 10 MB each) and one single file. The single file download is recommended only for those with an Internet connection of 300K or higher.

Choose a download version and language:

Full (approximately 129 MB):
The full download is a superset that includes all Visual Studio Service Pack 5 fixes. This is required for all developers using the Visual C++ 6.0 development system or those developers using more than one tool. This download includes product updates for the Visual SourceSafe 6.0 version control system.

Visual Basic (approximately 58 MB):
Recommended for developers using the Visual Basic development system—includes product updates for Visual SourceSafe 6.0 as well.

Visual FoxPro, Visual InterDev, and Visual J++ (approximately 74 MB):
Recommended for developers using the Visual FoxPro, Visual InterDev, and Visual J++ development systems—includes product updates for Visual SourceSafe 6.0 as well.

GriffMG: Hi again, I tried the files from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=8ECEC2B4-9118-4A63-8DBD-B34547AD2C62&displaylang=en
and there were only VB, VC++, and Source Safe, I also extracted all of it with WinRar to be sure and there was unfortunatelly nothing for VFP.
I would now try your files vs6sp5b1.exe, vs6sp5b2.exe, etc. Could you please upload it for me? For example to Hotfile.com or some other free hosting like that?

I stand corrected, assuming I don't run out of battery power, I've zipped the files together and they are on the way to a server...

Thank you for the upload. I extracted the zip succesfully, then extracted every exe file into a temp directory, installed it to my computer. But although in ist license terms i read also FoxPro (maybe common terms for all the patches), my foxpro was not upgraded to SP5. This update wasn't for VFP.. So I didn't find what i was searching for yet. But thanks anyway :)

I'll take that off then - I MUST have the SP5 somewhere though, because my VFP6 is at SP5.

I'll look in the 'physical' CDs later today and revert - don't give up just yet!

Hi

http://www.plunder.com/Visual-Studio-6-0-Service-Pack-5-download-21997.htm

I found this, it is the right size for the full package (130MB) I have not downloaded it or checked it so I suggest you check before running it, or run it in a sandbox.

To Commander238, the Service Pack that you downloaded from the website www.plunder.com, was that a legitimate site? Have you had any problems with the download or anything odd?  I only ask because I can not reach that site from our company network and I really need to get this same service pack.  If it is ligit, then maybe I can have it unblocked.
Commander238 (Programmer) (OP)

Yes, I think it is legitimate. It is a file sharing site. You can find both warez and freeware there like on every sharing site.

Another option for you:
You can download the same file from:
http://hotfile.com/dl/95065234/d24cd96/VS6SP5.exe.html
This is my upload , I hope you will have the permition to asscess another sharing server called Hotfile.com.
