Vantage 8.03 - Lot Numbers

I'm extremely new to Epicor Vantage 8.03.
Our parent company has been using it for approx. 4 years and it seems to work well. We are a gray & ductile iron foundry and typically track our manufacturing production by Heats (ie. 11-01 would be the our production for 2011 - First Production Heat).
We only have 1 "Heat" per day, but we use this to identify the castings being manufactured on that day. We only run 1 shift so this works well.
Is there something in Vantage that can be used like this instead of having to only rely on a long Job number (ie. 0008231-1-1, etc.)

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.
