Is there a way to set the caller ID as a name rather than just a number on a 3300. I know you can use the CPN Substitution form to get a number.

what type of system and version?  also is this for an inbound call or outbound call?

This is for outbound calls, also from a specific extension. For example all calls from extension 1000 would say the company name.

Its a Mitel 3300 MXe PBX.... This is the about page:

Release Level 4.0 SP2
Active Software Load:
Inactie Software Load: Not Available.
System Relink: No relink has been applied.
Call Control Relink: No relink has been applied.
Platorm:MXe, 512MB of RAM

I have never heard of outpulsing a name only and here's why......

The mitel system is only capable of manipulating the caller ID digits that are sent out.

When you make an outbound call, the telco looks at the caller ID that you are outpulsing. When they recieve that number they do a lookup in a caller ID name database to see if there is an existing name entry tied to that number.  If not no name is sent....just the number....if there is a match on the sends the name and number.

But I have never heard of only sending the may want to double check with the phone company

When I called them they told me that they can't set the caller ID name and that I would have to do it. Would this mean that I would need to talk to someone else about it. We are with Rogers in Canada if that helps.

That's strange to me that your phone company said they can't put a name to a number.   Maybe they misunderstood your question (or maybe I don't)
If I understand you right, you want number xxx-xxx-xxxx to show one name and number yyy-yyy-yyyy to show another.

Carrier can do this for you.   Just tell them you what name you want associated with what number.

It is not unusual in my area for the Telco not to set the name on digital trunks so I understand your issue intimately.

I am assuming that your Digital trunks are T1 using the DMS100 protocol. If this is not correct then you need to provide more details.

If my assumption is correct. it is possible to send a name as well as a number. Additionally, it is possible to send a name other than that programmed as the prime name in the telephone directory.

- Make sure Name Suppression is not enabled in the COS of the calling device
- Enable Calling Name Substitution in the COS of the calling device.
- Program the name that you want sent in the department field of the device in the telephone directory (10 Char Limit)

What's most important is that you realise ...  There is no spoon.

"Is there a way to set the caller ID as a name rather than just a number on a 3300."

Looks like we just need clarification on the question. It looks to me like he was asking if the Caller ID can just show XYZ company without a number.

Im not sure of the protocol but i know that it is T1.

I checked the name substitution option and it showed it was enabled, I set the department name and tested it but it still didn't work. I took a look at the other class of service sets (there are 3) and I changed both the other ones to the right setting. I'll test that in about an hour when I have time.

I've looked into it a little more and apparently I need to go through yellow pages to get a name set up like that.

And to clarify, I just needed to have the company name show up when a call is placed on that phone, it doesn't matter if the number shows up as well.

cknipe - The way I read the question is the way it was intended "Rather than Just" does not exclude the number but instead means "in addition to"

Yellow pages? Way off track.

When you test, go to maintenance commands and enter....
- ccs trace enable continuous

Make a test call and post the results. This will tell us whether you are sending calling name and number.

After the test, enter.... ccs trace disable.

What's most important is that you realise ...  There is no spoon.

looks to me like you are sending the calling name "Global Lif" (10 Characters remember) from extension 5000. I don't see the calling number for some reason.

There is an EDT command that might be more clear. Use the help files for the exact syntax.

Something like EDT VDSU X X X X namnum. where x x x x is the Digital Trunks PLID

What's most important is that you realise ...  There is no spoon.

Tried that command and it's showing less info than the previous one.

So it seems that the system is in fact sending the data out, is it possible that the provider is just ignoring the data?

Do I have to get the provider to set up something so they preserve the information?

The EDT command will only show the Name and number you are sending. If you are using the NI-2 protocol however it might not show even that.

Yes it is likely that the Telco is not accepting the name and number.

What's most important is that you realise ...  There is no spoon.

We used to have an issue with not being able to send out the company name of a call because the provider blocked it. If we wanted it to go out we had to arrange with them to pass the names. It seems recently that providers have set their default to pass the name/number on any new circuits we have ordered. That way we can control what gets sent from the 3300 on calls.

I would talk to your provider to make sure they are not blocking the name you are sending.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

I talked with one of the Rogers techs and did a test call with him so he could get some data. He told me that they have caller ID name passing enabled and when they looked at the data from the call they only saw the number and not the name coming from our system.

And yet this:

21:24:46 RO1004 DPN 25 ISRM_I  ;10;*1#*50*5000#*100*Global Life#*19*Z#

Indicates that you are in fact sending the name "Global Life".
