Windows2000pro closes internet explorer and firefox rite after opening

I started by renaming a bunch of audio files , about half way through the files I wanted a short cut to make the task easier . I minimized the files and tried to use firefox to serach the web for the short cut , But firefox seemed not to open . So I tried Internet Explorer and it opened for a very short time . About 10 seconds after it opened a error message appered.
" An error occured with Internet Explore and will now close .
" If You countinue to expierence this problem restart the computer ."
I tried restarting my computer like it said and it is no good . Both browsers just close 10 seconds after I open them .
The weirdest thing is that I found another Internet Explorer in my /Programs / Accessories/ That works as long as the media stays in the original tab opened.
Can Some One Please Help Me Get My Browsers In Working Order !!!           Thank You !!!
