Initializing the borland DB engine (error $2108)

Hi tek tips,

I have written a DB application and it works perfectly on my pc. When I install it on another pc using install shield i get the following error:
"An error occurred while trying to initialize the Borland Database Engine (error $2108)"

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you in advance!

Andrew

You have to have BDE (Borland Database Engine) installed on the user's PC. Look through your help on how to install it there. NOTE: BDE is old and no longer fully supported. Embarqadero's new Builder compilers have replacements.

Thanks 2ffat,

I know its ancient, I should really learn a new platform but anyway...

Do you by any chance know of a way to have the BDE automatically installed? ie. include it in the install shield setup program?
I'm using the Express Borland Limited edition of install shield.

My understanding is that it can but it been so long since I've installed it, I don't remember. We used to use an old Corel CD that installed it for us. It was much easier.
I'll check around if I get time.

2ffat,

I found out how to add the BDE installation.

You need to add the merge module file called 'bde_pro.msm' to the install shield folder (C:\Program Files\InstallShield\InstallShield Express Borland Limited Edition\Modules\i386) with the other merge modules.
Then when you open install shield the bde is added to the available merge modules.

Just thought you might be interested...

Take care,
Andrew
