I have a cs1000e with CPPM cards rls 5.5 that all of a sudden keeps dropping. The pbx has been running for a couple of years now, and supposedly there have been no changes on the data side. I went into pdt history and seen that it started with a SRPT192 error (aml 0 failed to ping 1 times), then the link to the MGC cards and the CPPM sig server go down.Nortel has a patch but it is not for this processor. Here is part of the pdt rdtail, it starts from the bottom. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you swapped out the Ethernet cables on you ELAN connections?

I know swapping out the cables are a long shot, but...the fact that you are losing link to both SS and MGC, suggests CS failure, possibly heat related...what's the temperature around your rack like? If it's warm, buy a cheap fan to blow across the cards...

Below is from Nortel on some of the errors you are seeing.  We had a similar problem but it was intermittent.  It would happen about every2 - 3 months.  The way we isolated was using the DECT Performance Manager because our symptom was the loss of the DECT phones.  The MG would reset and come back normal, but the DECT system would need a hard reset.

After installing the PM for the DECT system, it came back that it lost connectivity to the system and we were able to identify these ERR/SRPT/BUG codes and we replaced the SSC card and have not had an issue since.

May be worth a shot if you have a spare on hand.

Problem Description

Fact:
Nortel Communication Server 1000
CS1K
Media Gateway
SSC
NTDK20

Symptom:
Media Gateway reboots
BUG:  BUG8021
BUG:  BUG8021 Connection close (Maint Task), bug marker = 0
BUG:  BUG2138
BUG:  BUG2138 Remote TTY: ttyServer: End of file received, socket 37 for cab 3 is closed
SRPT016
SRPT016 OMM: IP link is DOWN between Call Server/Main Cabinet and Media Gateway/Expansion Cabinet 3
BUG:  BUG8020
BUG:  BUG8020 Miscellaneous error (Maint Task), parm = 3, bug marker = 3.

Cause:
Defective NTDK20 SSC card.

Problem Resolution

Fix:
Replace Defective NTDK20 SSC card.

Is this of any help below?.

CS1000M CPP rls 04.50W
ELAN connection to Symposium server via Baystack LAN switch.

Frequent SRPT192 messages seen on the Call Server (about four or five per hour), eg:
SRPT192 AML: link number 1 failed to respond to ping 1 time(s).

The Call Server pings the Symposium once every six seconds as a 'keep-alive' check.
At the time the SRPT192s were generated, a ping request was sent out from the Call Server but no response received.

Problem found to be that the network card on the Symposium server was set to 10Mb Full Duplex but the corresponding port on the Baystack switch was set to autonegotiate, and had therefore trained up at 10Mb Half Duplex. The ELAN connection to the Call Server had successfully autonegotiated to 100Mb Full Duplex.

Locked the Baystack port serving the Symposium to 10Mb Full Duplex and the SRPT192s ceased.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

We have gotten some AML link droppages as well but no reported issues because of it.  On the other hand, your IPMG IP link DOWN/UPS are of concern (as well as your ELAN009).  We JUST applied new Media Gateway patches Saturday as this is supposed to fix the 'random reboots' (is what we call it).
I can't explain why it would just stop working if it has been running fine for the last few years with no changes to the data network.  If you are doing some network scanning it is possible that it is interferring with your ELAN IP range - you are supposed to have an ACL to block that though :)

Thanks for the replies. I changed out the elan cables from the mgc cards and the cppm ss card but we are still having the problem. I think the switch is a little behind on petches so I will get them updated and go from there.

To help (maybe) We were on CAM08.  I believe we are on something like CAM12 or higher.  I think there was a relase of CAM10 awhile ago and they just came out with a newer one.
