DB2 GUI

DB2 GUI

(OP)
Can anyone recommend a good, free, DB2 GUI?  I use DB2 for the AS400 and just can't get on with the green screen option.

I currently use SqlDbx and WinSQL, but both of them have limitations on their free version.  WinSQL Pro allows you to import text files, which is really useful, but it's not available in the free version.  And SqlDbx only allows 2 scripts open at a time.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

RE: DB2 GUI

Have you tried using MS ACCESS?

RE: DB2 GUI

The problem with MS Access is that you also can't use it to import data into linked tables, which is how I have to access DB2/400 tables in Access (isn't it?).  Obviously, if this is wrong, please let me know what settings I'd have to change.

Any other ideas?

So, I've had a bit of luck here.  I needed to change the ODBC so that it commits immediately.  Now the records are being imported successfully.  Thanks rasELT :)

As SQL GUIs go, MS Access isn't the nicest (although I am very pleased I can easily import data now).  So any other suggestions for GUIs would still be appreciated.

Thanks

RE: DB2 GUI

MS Access has a DESIGN Facility that is somewhat User-Friendly. It reminds me of what probably was an early SQL Server Management Studio. Not sure what you are looking for as far as a Graphical User Interface is concerned. Access is easy to use and many people know how to use the tool.

If you are looking for a SQL editor, that is a different story.

Essentially I am looking for a GUI where I can write SQL scripts easily.  SqlDbx is great, but it only allows 2 windows  and 1 db connection open at a time on the free version, which is rather annoying.

I'm probably asking too much if I don't want to spend any money (correction - my company doesn't want to spend any money!), but I figured I'd pick people's brains just in case.

RE: DB2 GUI

AFAIK the problem with Access is that it does not automatically detect the primary key of the linked table with AS400 tables (physical files) If you assign the proper key it should work..

RE: DB2 GUI

Try using iSeries Navigator.  It has a really nice SQL interface to the iSeries and a GUI database front end.
