Cannot use TCP/IP protocol to access DB on my computer

Cannot use TCP/IP protocol to access DB on my computer

(OP)
Dear listers,

I have a problem accessing my Mimer SQL 10 database on my own computer. More specifically, I cannot use the TCP/IP protocol, I am forced to use the "local" protocol instead.

If I in the connection string either enter "Protocol=tcp" or omit the protocol specification completely (at which the connection uses TCP/IP by default), I get the following exception:

"An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

As far as I can tell, this is not even a Mimer-specific, but a Windows sockets exception, right?

If I in the connection string specify "Protocol=local", I can access my local database without problems.

So far, I have only seen this problem on my own computer, on other computers TCP/IP works to access a local database. And according to Mimer documentation, TCP/IP protocol should always work, both locally and remote.

When I access a remote database from my computer, the TCP/IP protocol works.

I have searched the internet for ideas of what could be causing my problem, but so far I have not found anything. Is there anyone on this list who has any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Anders

RE: Cannot use TCP/IP protocol to access DB on my computer

It could be firewall problem, but it could also have something to do with having (too) many connections to the server.

Do you get this error on the very first connect to the server without doing any retries? If you do not, it is possible that your real problem is that your connects fail.

Hi AME.

I get the problem immediately upon my first connection to the server. I have thought about the firewall, but could the firewall really affect the connections on my local computer?

Regards,
Anders
