"HP CUE scanning component" error--cannot scan on Vista

"HP CUE scanning component" error--cannot scan on Vista

(OP)
Hello:

I downloaded and installed the software and drivers for my Deskjet F340 on my new Vista Home Basic laptop. As I see from trying to scan and from reading numerous posts from similar users out on the internet, I see that the printer cannot scan in Vista like it could in XP.

Specifically, I get an error saying that the HP CUE scanning program component has stopped working, or some message to that effect. Before that error message, I get a message saying that an .exe file failed to initialize properly or some BS message like that.

I have tried several fixes discussed on the different nwsgroups but none of them worked. I tried messing around with that "Destination" registry key suggestion but that did not work. Neither does changing permissions on the HP desktop shortcut.

Did this ever get fixed in a patch or anything by HP? Does anyone have a good solution to this, or does this printer just not scan on Vista? (It prints fine....it just won't scan.)

Oh, well.....I guess I'll have to either go buy another printer/scanner or make a trip to Kinko's tonight.

Next to Windows Millenium Edition, Vista is the biggest flop that Microsoft ever produced.

You are possibly just missing some files that were blocked.
Turn off the firewall and anti-virus, then try to install from the HP site instead of saving the driver file.

nope....the firewall an anti-virusses are already installed. I tried a reinstall but no go....this really sucks.
