How can I print Duplex, 2 pages per sheet and have Page 1, 3 on one side and Page 2, 4 on the other?

Hello,

I want to print on my HP LaserJet 2300dn or HP Color LaserJet 46600hdn as follows:

 a) 2 pages per sheet
 b) Duplex

and the page order as follows

 c)
    -------------- --------------
   |              |             |
   |              |             |
   |        1     |      3      |
   |              |             |
    -------------- --------------

and in the back side have

    -------------- --------------
   |              |             |
   |              |             |
   |        2     |      4      |
   |              |             |
    -------------- --------------

a and b is straight forward and I already am able to do so. c remains elusive. Any direction is appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. The ASCII formatting is not preserved for c, but I hope it is clear enough for you all to see what my intent is.

RE: How to print Duplex, 2 pages / sheet & have Page 1, 3 on one side & ..

Hi,

I actually did something like this, about 15 years ago, using MS Word.  It was a small booklet, that was made with standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper, with 4 folds, resulting in a 2 x 2 1/4 booklet of 32 pages that had to be trimmed on 3 sides to free the pages from the folds.

Once I had the 'story' complete, I had to chop it up in the proper page size, place and rotate to fit each page segment in the front and back of the sheet.

I would not be surprised if someone has written software to do something like that.

The HP2300DN has all you need in the PCL6 driver properties to configure what you describe.  I expect the Colour LaserJet is similar though I can't confirm it.

It does it all automatically if you're using A4/ISO - I've no idea what happens if you're still using the furlong fortnight firkin system.

I've just noticed your page order is not the standard booklet order, which is 1 & 4 on one side and 2 & 3 on the other.

If you require 1 & 3 on one side and 2 & 4 on the other, interchange pages 1 and 2 in Word before printing.

Have a look at an inexpensive piece of software called "Click Books" from a company called Blue Squirrel.

You can scale the same output to different sized booklets. Well worth the cost.

Well, I decided to do it the good old way: Print 2 pages per sheet that are odd numbered and then manually, print 2 pages per sheet that are even numbered, after changing the page order.

Also, the files that I wanted to print are .pdf files.

In which case, where I wrote "Word" above, substitute "Adobe Acrobat" (assuming you know the password if the file is protected)..

SlimJohnD,

I have Adobe Acrobat Reader and I am unable to find the provision where one can interchange, say Pages 1 & 2, before printing. Can you please tell me how?

or

Is this something that is done when you initiate a print job, for which I am unable to find the provision to do that in the Print dialog either.

I am having the latest and appropriate PS driver version for both LaserJet 2300dn and Color LaserJet 4600hdn on 2 different workstations one with Windows XP SP3 and the other on Windows Vista SP1.

Reader does just that, read - you need Acrobat to juggle the pages around.
