Hotel trying to check qeusts in and out of octel system using administrator mail box 701, which is set up as COS 22
We login in with password and the USER GIUDE instructs us to press 1 to check-in and 2 to check-out, however we must be missing a step because it thinks were trying to view out messages when we press 1.

Anybody got a clue.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Are you sure the room is in checkout status? what type is the mailbox?

What user guide do you have and what software level are you using in the Octel ?

Figure 8-16. Front-Desk Mailbox Check-In/Check-Out Customizing Features.
Refer to Figure 8-16 and use the following key sequence to check in a mailbox:
1 > Enter mailbox > # > 1 Record guest name > # > # Confirm name > or express address 2 Skip recording   Cancel name   Cancel check-in   Cancel check-in Server > 1 Repeat >   plays 2 Continue password If a front-desk attendant attempts to check in a mailbox that is already checked in, the server provides two options:
Check out the mailbox first, then proceed with the check in. This deletes all existing messages in the mailbox.
Press the   key to cancel the check-in request at any time.
Using the type 22 mailbox, a hotel clerk can check in guest mailboxes by entering an express address for each mailbox if the front-desk mailbox and the guest mailbox are in the same community.
If the front-desk attendant selects check-out, the server plays the personal greeting or the name of the mailbox and deletes the personal greeting, name, and all remaining messages. To check out a mailbox, use the following key sequence:
2 > Enter mailbox > # > 1
or express address  􀀀 􀀀 Cancel check-out If the front-desk attendant attempts to check out a mailbox that has already been checked out, the server prompts that the mailbox has already been checked out. Press the   key at any point in the check-in or check-out sequence to cancel the check-out.

Ken
I'm not sure of the software rls the system was installed a year ago.

The secretary mailbox is 701 and is defined as class of service 22 which according to the manual is the correct class of service.

This did work, however the user that always updated the mailboxes was reassigned to another property and has since returned and forgot everything.
We know this is the correct mailbox because we attached the name Check in Check out Box to it.

I only have a copy of one page from the manual it was sent to me by the company that installed it and they are even confused as to the correct procedure.

1. call server
2 enter mailbox using secretary password

then it says

Check in press 1------->Enter mailbox number or express address.
Press the * key to cancel check in.

Check out press 2------> Enter mailbox number press the * key to cancel

Sorry for such a long reply

Where is this system at? The COS of 22 does not mean anything as far as the operation of it as it can be on any COS.

Do you have a terminal that you can pull up the mailbox profile on ?

I thougth that in order for the mailbox to have administrative rights the mailbox has to be defined as cos 22

It may be but if that is the case this is not a Octel 250 system.

What does the system look like ?
