FTP over GPRS

FTP over GPRS

(OP)
Not quite sure where to post this so please forgive me (and inform me) if there's a better place to post it....

I have a need to perform FTP transfers over GPRS, however I have a supplier who is trying to push me down the HTTP route for transfers. They have told me that all GPRS providers in the world will support HTTP, but not all of them will support FTP - can anyone tell me if this is true?

To my mind, as long as the correct ports are open both methods are just TCP/IP traffic so if you have one you must have the other??

Any ideas/opinions welcomed
